In our current economic climate, everyone is looking for ways to lower bills to save money. There are some things that can help lower the cost of your water bill and save water to help the environment. One thing to make sure is that your toilets are not running. If you find you are jiggling your handle every time you flush to make it stop, that is a sign you are using unnecessary water. Another thing to look for is if you have a dripping faucet. Even the smallest drips add up and can raise your water usage. In the summer, limit the amount of time you are watering your lawn. You would be surprised how quickly watering your lawn each day increases your monthly bill. If you have a sprinkler system, it is good to verify that the water is shut off in the winter and have someone check to make sure there are no cracks in the system before use in the summer. Other things to look at are possibly upgrading your washing machine and dishwasher if your appliances are over 10-15 years old. Newer appliances are built with water conservation in mind and tend to use less water. Even the smallest changes such as turning the water off while brushing your teeth or in between scrubbing and rinsing your dishes help save water and your water bill cost.
